Chileanismos

On this page, I will be sharing with you all of the Chileanisms that I learn while I am here, either from the book that my host family got me, "How to Survive the Chilean Jungle," or by word of mouth. I rather hope you enjoy this bit of cultural information!

• "pololo/a" = girlfriend
• novio/a is referred to as fianceé here in Chile.
• "palta" (syn. aguacate) = avocado. 
• "cachai" = get it?
• Cachai is use so frequently here in Chile, it is in commercials on t.v.
• "carrete" = party, bash, fiesta, etc.
• "sí, po"  = yes
• this is the abbreviated form of "sí, pues"
